About us

Our Vision

The Piako Triathlon is a non-profit community event with the vision being a Tri4Fun – an event where everyone could have a great time and maybe get hooked on triathlon. For us that meant limited numbers, varied distances to suit ability and timings that even the busiest of families can manage. The volunteer committee is proud to be Piako people and the triathlon names are a not-so-subtle nod to our main industry.

Piako triathlon for disable people

Fun for Everyone

The first event took place in March 2015 and we have had families return year after year and watched children grow in confidence with working their way up the distances until they were old enough to complete the adult course.

We have thought really carefully about how to make this event for everyone and designed the event to make it as accessible as possible.

Accessible and Inclusive

  •  We run a junior and adult event on the same day and with timings that mean adult entrants can support the juniors and then the juniors can return the favour.
  •  We have included a category where parents can support their child in transition.
  •  Distances are not tied to age – this is so each entrant can attempt a distance that they are confident in, ensuring that they have a fun experience.
  •  We offer shorter adult swims so new swimmers can experience a triathlon too.
  •  We can cater for disabilities and are always happy to chat about how we can make the event work for anyone.
